SBOE approves standards for new technology courses - Wednesday, April 27, 2011

AUSTIN – Because of the changing nature of computer science and the digital environment, the State Board of Education today gave final approval to a substantial revision and expansion of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Technology Applications for kindergarten through eighth grade, as well as to 13 high school courses.

The new curriculum standards will be implemented in 2012 -2013. These replace standards in use in Texas classrooms since 1998.

Cosmobot Robotics Competition Registration is Open - Tuesday, January 18, 2011


Please visit http://cosmobot.cosmostx.org web page to register your team. We would like to see one team from each middle school.

Some important items about the Cosmobot robotics competition: 

  • Date: Friday May 6th - 2011 ( ISWEEEP-Public Viewing day)
  • Place: George R. Brown Convention Center, Houston
  • Application deadline is February 5th 2011.
  • Maximum Four (4) student team members from 6th to 8th grade.
  • Maximum number of 2 (two) teams per school.
  • Competition field will be shipped to schools in February.

FTC robotics competition update 2010-2011 - Wednesday, December 08, 2010

1. First opportunity, any veteran or rookie team who is ready and able to compete in either the Southwest FTC Championship, Saturday March 5th OR the Alamo FTC Championship, Thursday March 3rd may do so on a first come first served basis.

2. No qualifier participation will be required to register for these tournaments.  The qualifier system will be implemented next year.  ( 2011-2012)

3. Registration for the Alamo and Southwest Championships will open on January 18th to all Texas teams.

4. Teams may register for only one, not both, of the Championship tournaments.

5. Teams from other states will be considered on a space available basis.

6. Only the Alamo and Southwest FTC Championship tournaments will advance teams to the FTC World Championship event in St. Louis this season so please plan accordingly.

Free Google SketchUp Pro Licenses for All K-12 Students and Teachers in Texas - Wednesday, September 29, 2010

TCEA has been granted the exclusive rights in the state of Texas to provide free licenses of Google SketchUp Pro to all K-12 educators and students. The 3D modeling software, normally $495 per license, is easy and intuitive, allowing anyone to model in 3D quickly and accurately.

The license is good for one year and may be renewed each year after that. The license may not be shared with other individuals. To receive a free license, complete this form. You will then be emailed information on how to download and install the software.
